About me
I am a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. I qualified as a medical doctor in 2002. I also trained in psychoanalytic psychotherapy (2000-2004).
I further trained in psychiatry and became a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2011. My Higher Specialist Training in Child and Adolescent Mental Health was completed at St Mary’s Scheme, London, which is affiliated to Imperial College, London.
I’ve worked within a variety of NHS settings with children and adults, including people with learning and physical disabilities.
I have particular expertise in the assessment and management of neurodevelopmental disorders - Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders (ADD/ADHD), Autistic Spectrum Disorders or Tic disorder.
In my everyday practice I treat young people presenting with a range of psychiatric disorders including depression, PTSD, general anxiety, phobias, OCD and psychosis.
I have experience in assessment and treatment of psychological trauma and I trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing).
My training combines medical knowledge with experience in child development, family work, and individual therapies. I also use an attachment as well as psychoanalytic theory perspective to understand problems in the child-caregiver relationship. My work often combines psychiatric diagnosis and treatment, medication if indicated with talking therapy.
I am skilled in helping children and young people who are experiencing school-based problems.
I have experience in the assessment and management of young people whose behaviour has brought or is at risk of bringing them to school exclusion.
I can also offer to see parents/carers on their own to help understand where the difficulties the family is experiencing might be coming from.
As a clinician I aim to engage with young people and their families to gain an understanding of difficulties and together find a way forward.
